Meet our Board Members

Rene

President: René Boyes-Murdo

Hi, my name is Rene’ Boyes-Murdo and I am the proud president of Soroptimist International of Chico for the 2008-2009 year.  I joined SI Chico in 2002 and have made many sister-friends who will be always be a part of my life.  Since joining I have felt like I am home, and what a nice home to have.

To tell you a little about SI Chico, we encourage the sincerity of friendship, the joy of achievement, the dignity of service, the integrity of profession, and the love of Country.  Our fund raiser is the Home, Garden and Antique show always the third weekend in March where we strive to earn enough to give it all back.  We work together as a cohesive group toward a bigger goal that benefits not only our community but our world in ways that touches everyone’s heart.

That leads me to my theme for this year: "Heart to Heart."  Each year the president chooses a theme.  Each year it is different, but each theme is a building block within the S structure.  None are new but each is a reminder of that particular block and it is an intricate part of who we are.  Our “Heart”, SI Chico touches, helps and benefits the “Heart” of our community and the “Heart” of the world.

We are a group of strong, hardworking, enthusiast, community oriented women who are always working with a singular purpose; giving back and moving forward.  Always leaving things better then they were as we move ahead.

I am honored to be a part of such a great group of individuals who are always looking toward the future and working together.  I am proud to be called your sister.

Vice President Kit Tzikas
Hello, I’m Kit Tzikas I am a Credit Analyst with Premier West Bank I have been in the banking industry since 1982. I joined Soroptimist International of Chico in December of 2004. I can’t believe how fast the time has gone, I have made many friends, worked hard on committees and have enjoyed every minute of it. I am on the board serving as Vice President for Soroptimist of Chico 2008-2009. I have a grown son and daughter who are out of the house so I spend my extra time entertaining and having fun! I was born and raised in Chico and learned at an early age to always give back to your community. I truly enjoy my membership as well as serving on the Board and look forward to being involved for a long time to come

Treasurer Joan Stoner

I joined SI Chico because of the persuasiveness of my high school friend, Susan Evers-McCauley. I have stayed a member because of the enormous satisfaction of giving back to the community while making friends and having a great time. Being a member has allowed me to travel to Calgary, Canada and Nara, Japan. I probably meet more people every week because of my membership.

I grew up in Chico and attended Chico State University, graduating with a degree in accounting. I have been a CPA for 26 years and now own my business, Stoner Jeffers and Associates. My family includes three sisters and four brothers, of which I am the oldest. Jane, one of my sisters, is a past president of SI Chico. I have two grown children, my daughter is married and works for GAP. My son is a wide receiver for the University of New Mexico Los Lobos football team, where he is also getting an education. My two dogs, Raider and Sassari, keep me company at work and at home.

Treasurer-Elect Linda Lotspeich

I love being a Soroptimist! I have been one since February 1989 and have now held all offices and most committee chairs including President in 1995-1996. What a wonderful learning experience to be part of an organization of such dynamic and caring women for the past 17 years. I am always amazed at how well we are able to adapt to changing times and continue to serve the local and global community in ever increasing ways. I am the office manager at Lotspeich & Co. Accountancy Co.

Recording Secretary Julie Regalado

Corresponding Secretary Jennifer Mojica

I am the Bookkeeper and Office Administrator for PacifiCom, a local IT/Computer Consulting company.  I have been a member of SI Chico for one year now.  I joined Soroptimists at the recommendation of my boss.  He is very involved in the community and philanthropy and encouraged me to be as well.  It took only one meeting to determine that this was definitely something I wanted to be a part of.  I love being surrounded by such a strong, powerful and diverse group of women who don’t hesitate to voice their opinions.  Every week I come away from our meeting feeling inspired and touched by the wonderful people that present their organizations to us.

I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to give back to the community I grew up in while making fantastic new friends at the same time.  In my first year I was on the Special Events Committee, Kids Committee for the Home, Garden & Antique Show as well as a member of our Relay for Life Team.  I am excited for my new position this year on the Board and look forward to being involved in club for many years to come.

Alternate Delegate Jeanette Summers

I became a member of SI Chico in Sept 2005. I was introduced to the Club in May 2005 by my friend Amy Hawes. The meeting was powerful, the Club was giving Awards/Scholarships to young, single mothers who were hard working, great parents and continuing their education. I was hooked. I knew this was a club with heart and that it made a big impact on the lives of woman and children locally and internationally. I went on the learn that they also gave to groups like The Salvation Army, The Jesus Center, the Butte Co. Library, our schools and many others. Plus it was a "hands on" club too. I began on the Service Committee my first year and loved it. I was involved in doing research for requests from organizations asking for donations. Then I was asked by the incoming president if I would be a chair for our major fundraiser,"The Home, Garden & Antique Show". I was so new in the club I didn't really know what that meant and answered, "Of course." What a learning experience the next two years were. It was a LOT of hard work, challenging, but also very fun! I was involved in making some changes to the show and worked with remarkable women who all gave so much to make the show a success. One of the best parts was getting to know so many women and making new and lasting friendships! I enjoy attending our conferences also, always learning something new about our "Soroptimist World" and it teaches me to strive harder to make the World a better place. My personal motto, "Don't wait for the World to change, be the change"! Being a Soroptimist taught me that ONE person can really make a difference! But what we do as a group is so powerful. I will be with Soroptimist for a very long time!

Chico has been home since 1978. I graduated from CSUC in 1982. I managed Gates Resale, Inc. for 21 years and retired in 2000. I have been involved in community service since a young age, this is something that I saw my parents do and I got involved and it felt good! I have also been a volunteer at Enloe Hospital for over 5 years. I have been married for 25 years, we have 3 children (2 are married) and 2 precious grandchildren. Spending time with my family and friends makes me VERY happy

Alternate Delegate Sydney Thompson

I was born in Petaluma, CA on Sept. 19th - I'll be 65 this year! My husband, Joe and I were married in 1964.  He passed away in 2003 and I moved to Chico to be closer to my daughter and grandchildren.   I have two daughters, Sherri and Julie.  Julie lives here in Chico with her husband Allan and three daughters.  I baby sit the girls each day during the school year. (Julie is a teacher so has summers off).

I am a retired real estate broker and I love to read, knit, crochet and travel - especially traveling to Ireland to visit daughter Sherri and her husband and three children.

I joined this  Soroptimist club little over a year ago and am one of the co-chairs of Home Garden and Antique Show for 2009 and as an alternate delegate. I also belonged to Soroptimist in Petaluma for several years, serving two terms as president,  among other offices.
